Experimenting with fabric for the Habitat Challenge

On Monday I finished Cristine’s Bosties for my housekeeper Cristine. I’m keeping the quilt at least through the weekend for show and tell at my monthly meeting of the Sacramento Modern Quilt Guild. I don’t see Cristine very often, as she usually cleans while I’m at work. My plan is to ask her to come by one evening so I can “show her something” and then give her the quilt. I’m going to enjoy seeing her face, explaining the blocks, and telling her the story of the missing blocks.

Right now I’m working on a guild challenge with fabric from the Habitat line by designer Jay McCarroll, first winner of Project Runway. My deadline is very short, but the quilt is small and mostly fused. I made a lot of progress last night and I plan to make more headway tonight.
The next project is a frog quilt for co-worker Sara, who is leaving the office to be a stay-at-home mom to her two young children. Bravo, Sara! This quilt has a tight deadline, as well, but it’s a whole bunch of squares, so it shouldn’t take long.

I haven’t touched Wavy Irish Chain, but I would like to get it finished up soon. The main part of the quilt top is done. I need to attach a border-wavy, of course-and quilt. There’s no deadline on this one as it is for me.

On a side note, I have entered four wallhangings and one throw-sized quilt in this weekend’s craft fair at my church. This will be the first public display of my quilts. I’m pretty calm about it. I don’t expect a lot of quilters to be there, so I’m not concerned about my quilts being critiqued.

The craft fair starts at 2:00, but I’ll be at my guild meeting in Sacramento until noon. I’ll grab some lunch, then head back to town to catch the last hour and a half of the craft fair. My friend Lena R. plans to meet me there.

  1. Can't wait to see what you come up with for the Habitat challenge. I still haven't tackled that one yet! Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. : )
