After reading a post from friend Jenn at Jenniffier's Sometimes Creative Life, I decided to join in on the Sew Thinky Thursday link party. You answer a question each Thursday. Here goes.
What is one regular thing you do for yourself to keep up your creative mind? Do you go to a guild, out for coffee with a friend? Are there people / activities you do regularly or as needed?
I love to design quilts, and I try to make a unique design with each project. Often I create a special quilt for a friend, bringing in elements of his or her personality and interests. I try to find a theme fabric, and/or quilt blocks whose names relate to the person; it's great if I can do both. I may have a dozen different possible elements for one quilt. Putting several of those ideas together into a design is a great challenge for my brain. And since I make an average of one throw-sized quilt per month from scratch, my mind is regularly tasked to create something new and unique.
Other challenges come from blog hops or guild meetings. Rules and guidelines are set, such as a theme, fabric to be used, size, and deadline. I have to work within those rules, then branch out from there. My first ideas are generally pretty standard, like a straightforward block, but I don't like to settle for that. I go for the unexpected, and I believe that is what makes my finished projects interesting and like no others.

You are very good at describing yourself. I adore how your quilts are for people you care about and how each one is made just for them.
