Stamp On It Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog! I'm so glad you stopped by. I'm delighted to participate in the Stamp On It Blog Hop. Be sure to check the end of the post for giveaways.

I have been playing the piano since I was 7 years old. I was a piano major in college, and earned my way through school by playing for many vocalists, instrumentalists and musical groups. As a professional pianist I have had the opportunity to travel through most of the states in the U.S., and to play in about one third of the states. I have played in concerts in Canada, as well. I have been the pianist at a large church for 35 years, and hope to go another 10 years before I turn over the bench to someone else. It only seems natural that my postage stamp would be about music.

Music Stamp
For Stamp On It Blog Hop
Mostly from stash
Original design
9" square
Completed 7/2/2013

Back

For details, please read on.

Started with a 9.5" piece of black fabric from stash.

Drew an eighth note freehand, based on several Pinterest images.

Once I was happy with my drawing, drew in fine point permanent marker.

White fabric, from stash, over drawing - can see shape just fine.

Put the drawing and the white fabric on a lightbox, then traced the shape with a Frixion pen, which dissolves with the heat of an iron.

Cut out the eighth note, positioned it on the black background fabric.

Pinned eighth note to background and batting (no backing).

Zigzagged around edge of eighth note with invisible thread.

Back

Trimmed batting even with black fabric

Took two pieces of music fabric (from stash), sewed together, leaving an opening in the middle (escape hatch). Pressed open,. This is the backing.

Quilt top/batting face down on backing, pinned. Opening on the backing is taped shut for now.

Sewed around the perimeter of the quilt top.

Trimmed even with the quilt top, cut away the corners.

Reached through the backing, removed the tape, turned the piece right side out, pressed.

Back. Gap can be hand-sewn shut. Often I glue it shut with Okay to Wash It glue, let dry overnight.

Embellishments - stickers and wide rick rack

Rick rack

Sewed rick rack to the back, letting half show through to the front. Looks like the edge of a stamp.

Added stickers, made of felt: USA, my country.
Fourteen - apparently my favorite number, since I use it when I exaggerate.

The words For Now are a joke on the Forever Stamps in the U.S.

I ended up using Okay to Wash It glue to hold the stickers in place. I'm happy with the way the stamp turned out.

Now for the giveaways. You could win one of the two fat quarters below.
