Hearth and Home block (modified)
Last night I finished four Hearth and Home blocks for Cristine’s Bosties, a quilt for my housekeeper Cristine. The blocks are pretty big—20” finished. I modified the block to have a center area where Dottie the Boston Terrier motif could be shown off.
Triangle Paper by Quiltime
Makes half-square triangles. Comes in many sizes. I'm using the 4" finished for my blocks.
One sheet of triangle paper, which is a little smaller than a fat quarter.
Side note: I found these little stains on one of my fabrics. It's still usable, but I put a safety pin near the stains to alert me next time I want to use it (perhaps years from now). Could save some frustration later.
Layer two fabrics right sides together. Pin the triangle paper to one side.
Sew on the dotted lines using a short stitch length. It's possible to do it in one continuous line. Sew off the pattern, pivot and continue.
Cut on the solid lines. Here's one unit cut.
Remove the paper.
Press open. Voila!

Tonight I’ll begin working on the Home Circle blocks. Each of the five blocks have four Square in a Square units, which I’ll construct using paper piecing. It’ll take me a few days to get the blocks done.
Cristine is due to come to my house in the next week. I’ll have to be sure to hide the project from her. I want the quilt to be a surprise, and if she sees the Boston Terriers she’ll know the quilt is for her.
