First pieced block - simplified Premium Star
Strip pieced then subcut
Added narrow strips in light purple
Snakeskin sewn between previous pieced corners.
Snakeskin/lasso/snakeskin strip pieced, then subcut.
Block all sewn together
A couple of nights ago I finished the first pieced block for the Cowboys quilt. I’m glad I decided to go with the snakeskin fabric. There isn’t a lot of value (light/medium/dark) difference between it and the dark purple solid, but there is a textural difference and that was ultimately more important to me.
I like the lasso fabric in the center, too. It adds to the cowboy theme of the quilt and the light fabric pops from the darker surroundings.
Last night I finished a few more of the same blocks. I’ve got three more to go, then I’ll make a few in the same pattern but swapping out the lasso and snakeskin for other fabrics.
Tomorrow is my Sacramento Modern Quilt Guild meeting and I’m hoping to get most of the quilt top pieced together tonight so I can present it as Show and Tell. Worst case scenario, I’ll bring whatever I have. I may not get to the borders tonight. We’ll see.
