Recently I read an email from someone who was asking for a quilt pattern that works well with a certain color. There have been many responses to the email, some suggesting various patterns to go with the color.
I don't get it. Who decided that certain colors look good only with certain patterns??? It seems to me you could make a nice-looking quilt in any pattern from any color--as long as you have variations in value (dark, medium, light, etc.) and a sprinkling of good-looking accent colors.
It could be that I'm used to creating my own designs, rather than "copying" or "recreating" an existing one. But it just bothers me to think that there could be so few choices when it comes to specific colors. Really, you're limited only by your own imagination. Pick a color and your favorite pattern. Apply variations in value plus a couple of accent colors and you've got the makings of a beautiful quilt.
Climbing down off my soapbox now.
